HELL

Club Shamoun's most ambitious work, HELL, takes creative liberty in its original depiction of this torturous neverland. Throughout time, humans have been motivated by fear of eternal suffering and damnation through many iterations of this neverending prison. Throughout these depictions, the movement has been at the forefront of these images within movies, texts, and paintings. We see convulsing bodies, contorted spines, necks moving in rapture's delight, and ritualistic ceremony represented by swaying bodies. The body represents the devil's playground, and movement is his game.

For two years, C-LS has been in the creative process of their third evening-length work. HELL will premier in NYC on February 11th, 2022, at Studio 153. HELL made its west coast premiere in Seattle, WA, in May 2022 and was possible through the Lillian Miller Education Fund Grant. HELL is set to tour to Chicago in December 2022. Directed by C-LS founder Lydia Shamoun, HELL features original live music by Ruby Dunphy and Luke Clohisy, technical direction by Kate O'Day, and film by Sierra Hendrix. Hell is performed by collaborators Drew Lewis, Sierra Hendrix, Madison Wada, and Allison Burke.

In addition to the performance, C-LS is creating a separate experimental film under the same title, HELL. Under the co-direction of Lydia Shamoun, Sierra Hendrix, and Allison Burke, HELL, the film is a visceral, image-driven portrayal of eternal damnation. It is based on the same references as the performance but is its own work entirely. C-LS hopes to premiere this film in Fall/ Winter 2022.
